The spawn is in a flat landscape biome. Turn around and face the savannah biome and then follow the coastline on your left.
After a while you should be seeing great mountains stretching far up in the sky in the same height as where the clouds are. If you continue your way around the savannah biome you will see that it flattens out after a while.

There are multiple massive mountains standing next to each other with multiple paths leading into the center of the savannah biome. Somebody with a creative mind could most certainly make an epic base in the center.
